Thinking of you Aunty

I have had occassion recently to make a card for an aunt of mine. She is going through some rough times so I wanted her to know that I was thinking of her. I wanted something that would be cheerful and I ended up picking a beautiful image by Designed 2 Delight Digital Stamps. I had gotten it awhile ago as the start to a month of challenges. Unfortunately, I was not able to participate, but loved the image so much that I wanted to use it somehow. As I was going through all of my images I came across this one again and knew right away it would be perfect.
It's called the Spotty Dotty Watering Can and isn't it just the most cheerful image? I colored it with my Prisma Scholar pencil crayons and trimmed the circle and the butterfly's with my pink metalic gel pen. The fold was by Sandy Hulsart and you can find the tutorial here.

All Because Two People Fell in Love

O.K. all...better go and grab a coffee and get comfy....this one's going to be a long one lol.
It's spring, or so we've been told and we are finally starting to see it here. Two days ago we had snow and today the sun is shining and it's a beautiful 10 degrees (42). I was outside in the sun in just a long sleeved shirt and jeans and I wasn't even cold!
Unfortunately, spring gets me thinking of nature...as in flower beds that need tending, grass that needs cutting and of course the trees that might need trimming. Well Vickie, of Nana Vic's, gave us a tree this last fortnight for her Vickie Quickie Challenge, that needs no work at all. She calls it her Tree of Life and as soon as I saw it I knew exactly what I wanted to do with it! Yeah right, what's that saying about the best laid plans of mice and men? The idea was great...it was just the execution of it that I was having the problems with. The image itself was a dream to do....no problems there. It was what I wanted to do with the base of the card. Well hold on...lets start at the beginning. My great idea was to make the Tree of Life a Family Tree...get it...Tree of Life...Family Tree? So you see where I'm going with this right? No problem there...got it all colored up nice and ready to go. Now usually the next step is where I have the problem....what to do with the image now. Nope...no problem...already knew I wanted to do a triple easel card. Color choices...o.k...little problem. Couldn't make up my mind what to put with the peach. I finally settled on a nice blue...peach and blue...nice spring and summer colors right (their anniversary is in January...they may want a reminder of the warmth that is to come lol)? Originally I had wanted use a bunch of pictures of our family and make them into digi paper. Only problem with that, besides that fact that I didn't have enough colored ink, is that the pictures get covered up by everything else. Then I wanted to do a small calendar on the base....my program would not let me do what I wanted in the size I wanted...so after too much wasted ink, I gave up that idea. So, what to do with it now? I went out to the stores to see if an idea would hit me...and it did. Here's what I came up with.
I put my mom and dad's names (you might notice that it's blurry on their names...I blurred the last names for their privacy), the date they met, when they got married, and the names of my siblings and me in the peaches on the tree. Then I took my leaf punch (that I'm not supposed to have yet...it's part of my Mother's Day gift from my dd...but she was kind enough to let me use it this once lol) and punched out 5 blue and 14 peach leaves. On the blue one's I wrote the names of my brothers-in-law and sister-in-law and glued them around my sentiment. The sentiment by the way, is the words of one of my favorite country songs. Then I wrote the names of all of my parents grandchildren on the rest of the leaves and attached them with dimensionals.
As an added touch to the tree, I added SU's Crystal effects to the peaches and blue stickles to the leaves. Now I just have to wait a year to see what they think lol. If you'd like to join in on Vickie's newest Vickie Quickie, you can find it here along with her new freebie for it. Trust me, you don't want to miss out on this one.

Happy Birthday from all of us

O.K...so I'm wanting to do this birthday card for my dad...you know...try to get ahead of the game so I don't have to worry for his next birthday. I know....might be termed as being a bit anal, but what can I say. And ten to one when his birthday comes along I'll probably forget that I made it lol. So I'm looking around in all of my images and I come across this fabulous one from Bugaboo that would work for a card from my hubby, kids and me. It's one of their new scenic images and this was a wonderful freebie.
I wanted something bright and fun and I think that I managed that. The sentiments are my own (I'm so good with them aren't I? lol). I took some of the dp and cut out some of the balloons for the bottom portion and used small silver flatbacked balls for the strings on the balloons. The layout is a sketch from Wax Fruit Company. The sketch was for our last CDAC Sketch challenge.

The sentiment is from Splitcoast Stampers and the DP is from Create with TLC. Isn't the paper just the best? I added a blue and red flat backed pearl and a yellow rhinestone to finish it off.

Life is a Fairytale

Is there anything better than sitting down with a good book? I don't think so...to be able to just loose yourself in the pages...whether it's a fantasy, a thriller or even something funny...nothing beats curling up on the couch and loosing yourself in another reality for awhile. This last 2 weeks the CDAC has had it's CDAC Group Challenges again and one of the categories is Other. A fabulous artist by the name of Lauretta, from Lauretta's Digital Stamps, donated a wonderful image of a girl sitting and reading a book. Made me think of my dd who always seems to have her nose in a book lol. So I knew that I just had to do something with this image. So for the challenge Lauretta wanted us to make a bookmark. Unfortunately, I missed the deadline for it, but I did manage to finish the bookmark anyways. And I gave it to my dd, who loved it. We just have to laminate it cause she doesn't want it to get wrecked lol.

Take a look at this image...isn't it great?

Just Sitting Here Thinking of You

This last week has been a bit of a stressful one for my dd and I...not to mention my bf and her dd. My daughter's(dd's) best friend (bf), who's mother is one of my bf's, landed up in the hospital this week. She had been having some pains in her stomache/abdominal region for a few days and Tuesday night things got bad for her. Turns out it was a case of appendicitis. So on Wednesday they operated and by Thursday late afternoon she was back home. So of course I had to make her a Get Well card. Now I have been wanting to use this adorable little image from Just Some Lines every since I got it, and it was just perfect for a "Thinking of You" Get well soon card.
Isn't it just one of the cutest little images you ever saw? The colors that I went with were: Brown for the base, pink with brown polka dots and brown with pink and light green swirls. The sentiment on the front I came up with on my own (it was so difficult lol) and the inside sentiment I found on Splitcoast Stampers. I just printed it up on my computer using the Curlz MT font on my Microsoft Office.
The pink/brown polka dot paper I found at Free Digital Scrapbooking . The flower border on the front and the butterfly and flowers on the inside were prestickies from my local dollar store.
