International Children's Day

International Children’s Day is a day that was put aside by the World Conference for the Well-being of Children . The holiday is usually marked with speeches on children’s rights and wellbeing, children TV programs, parties, and  various actions involving children or dedicated to children. It is celebrated on different days around the world, but International Youth Day is recognised by the United Nations and is celebrated on August 12th.

To Commemorate Children’s Day Digistamps4Joy challenged us to make a project depicting a child. No angels, fairies or teens…a child. Pretty easy right? Well the twist is that we'd like to see something that is not a card or tag! If you find that this is a bit too much out of your comfort zone, we will accept a card or tag. The image that I got to use for this challenge is called Summer Ice Cream. You can find this image and all the other fabulous images from Digistamps4Joy here.So once I had my image I went and scoured the internet for an idea…and boy did I find an idea! My dd's birthday was coming up and I decided that I wanted to make a box to put some of her gifts in.
I found this fabulous tutorial for this box here. Little did I know when I started this project just how much of a challenge it would be, but it was well worth it in the end…my dd loved it!

Isn’t this image  just too adorable? What a wonderfully fun summer image. I coloured her with my Prisma Scholar pencil crayons and oms. I used a Nestibility to cut her out with. The box is made with 3 layers of paper for each panel...a designer paper for the outside and inside and a layer in
between.
The instructions for the box said to use cardboard from a cereal box, but I didn't have one, so I used cardboard paper that I picked up from the dollar store. I crocheted the pieces with embroidery thread and used a number 8 needle. It said to use a 1.25 mm needle but I found that too small for me (not sure how many mm’s a number 8 is).  I added Stickles to the roses and butterflies because my daughter and I love the glitter!

Random.org will pick one winner to receive 3 images of their choice from the store. You do not have to use a Digistamps4Joy image to win with the random pick. There will also be a DT pick. That entry must be a Digistamps4Joy image, and the winner will receive a $6 Gift Voucher to the store. For all the deets on the challenge go to the Digistamps4Joy Challenge blog here.

So what are you waiting for? Head on over and while you’re there, check out the fabulous creations that my team mates came up with.

TLC's 1st Anniversary at CDAC and 300 Member Party

TLC on CDAC is celebrating it's 1st year Anniversary and having 300 members! So to celebrate Paulette, of Create with TLC has offered two different images that we got to choose from to make a card with for their combined celebration challenge. I chose this wonderful Vintage Image. I chose a layout from the current Midnight Madness Sketch Challenge on CDAC. You can find the challenge here. We had a choice of 2 different layouts....a fancy one or a CAS one...I chose the fancy one.

I chose the Fancy one and this is what I came up with.
The idea for TLC's challenge was to use one of the images and come up with your own sentiment. I had a heck of a time coming up with a sentiment (Sentiments are a stretch for me lol), but I did manage to come up with "One step...two step  Three step...Grown!". I colored the image with my Prisma Scholar pencil crayons and oms.

So I just had to show you a close up of this wonderful image. Isn't it just too adorable? Reminds me of when my dd was learning to walk...and now she's 19 years old lol. That's why I came up with the sentiment I did...seems like they take their first steps and the next thing you know, they're an adult! I added a birthday greeting from Nana Vic's on the bottom with some Rhinestones from Recollections. The small flowers are also from Recollections as is the dp and cs. I distressed the edges with SU's River Rock ink.

Karen's Doodles Tribute

As we all sit and watch the horrible tragedy that happened in Norway this last week, Karen over at Karen’s Doodles, has created a wonderful image in tribute to the victims of these senseless crimes.

She is offering this image free so that we can show our support to our friends in Norway. She is asking that we make a card and show it on our blog or send it to a charity in honour of the victims.  Or print out the image for your child to color. She also asks that you please post your ideas or links to your cards in the comment section of her blog. She would love to see our friends in Norway flooded with your generosity.

If you would like to all about this tribute, please head over to Karen’s Doodle’s here. And let’s all show our support to the people of Norway.

Hugs ~

A Magical Birthday Wish

So for those of you that don’t know, yesterday was my dear daughter’s 19th birthday! I can’t believe it, where did the time go? And how did she get to be so old while I stayed so young? lol  Anyways, Vickie over at Nana Vic’s newest Vickie Quickie freebie was a wonderful Word Art sheet that you can find here. As soon as I saw all those wonderful sentiments, the ideas started running through my head of what I could do for a card for my daughter. She is a huge Tinkerbell fanatic and there was a couple of sentiments that I thought would be perfect for a Tinkerbell card. I finally found a Tink coloring page that I felt would be perfect for it.
The fold is called a Joy fold card and can be found here.
The little bags of fairy dust also came from the Word Art sheet. I colored Tink with my Prisma Scholar pencil crayons and oms and added gold flecked stickles to her wings. I used my Gold Gelly Roll pen for the fairy dust.
This is one of her fabulous word art sentiments that she offered. I printed it and then went over it with my Gold Gelly Roll pen. I used my metallic watercolors for coloring the fairy dust bags and doing the edges the cardstock my image was printed on.

You can still pick up this wonderful freebie for a couple of hours....so don't miss out. Come on over and join in the fun. You can find all the deets on Nana Vic's Quickie Challenge on her blog.

Marvelous Monday!

Hey everyone! Hope you all had a great weekend. We had clouds and rain lol, but it was a good one anyways. So here we are at the start of another week and because it's Monday, it's Marvelous Monday over at Shelly's Images! And lucky me...I got to be a GDT this time :D This week we're showing our favorite images from Shelly's Images store.  I was so excited to be able to use the image that I did.

The image that I used was one that I won from her shop and I just love it. I adore doing scenic cards and this image fit the bill just right for a Father's Day card for my father in law.  Isn't it absolutely gorgeous! I just love that pretty little duck swimming in the water! If you'd like to get this image...or check out any of her other fabulous images, you can find them here. I paired it with some cattails from Firecracker Designs just to give it a more 3D effect.
I colored the image with Prisma Scholar pencil crayons and oms. Except for the head and part of the tail...on the those I used some metallic water colors to give the feathers a natural sheen like the real ducks. I added brown flocking to the cattails to make them more realistic also.

I got the sentiment from Splitcoast Stampers and the idea for the Octagon easel card from Crafty Anne and you can find the template here. I distressed around the sentiment using my Moss green ink from SU.

Supplies:

Uncolored image from Shelly's Images
Sentiment from Splitcoast Stampers
DP - From my stash
Medium - Prisma Scholar pencil crayons and oms, metallic water colors
Moss Green ink from Stampin Up
Ribbon from my stash
Brass Flat backed pearls from Recollections

Countdown to Christmas

Yup, you heard right….Digistamps4Joy is having a Countdown to Christmas! And whenever I think of Christmas, I think of this wonderful song and show. Don't you just love Bing singing this?  It also reminds me of how many times I've said to myself "I really need to start doing up my Christmas cards early", and then I don't lol. Well if you're like me, here’s your chance to get a jumpstart on the season!

I was lucky enough to get the cutest image to work with. It’s called Giraffe – Christmas hat and you can find it here. The challenge is to make a Christmas card or project and have lots of snow and ice.

Now I’m not sure what the name of the fold of this card is, but I found the instructions for it here at my wonderful friend Karen's blog. She came up with this fold herself and I am so grateful that she did cause it was perfect for what I wanted to do.

This is what it looks like from the front. To make this card I used a piece each of Red and Blue spot embossed paper by Bazzil. I colored my image and the sky behind it using Prisma Scholar pencil crayons and oms. I stamped and embossed two trees from SU and cut them out. I also embossed my Merry Christmas sentiment and the snow in behind my giraffe image. The embossing powder that I used for everything is called Christmas Tinsel and not only is it white, but it has glitter in it so that when the light hits it, it flashes a bunch of different colors....just like when the sun hits snow.

I punched the snowflakes out of glitter paper from my stash. The icicles I got from Public Domain Clip Art and can be found here. The snowflake "ribbon" is from my stash.

The rules for the challenge are simple, make a card or project with a Christmas theme to it. Be sure to have lots of ice and snow. There will be a random winner and then a DT choice. You don't have to use a Digistamps4Joy image to win the random win, but you must use one to win the DT choice. For full contest rules and to join in, just click here. And while you're checking out the rules and fab prizes, check out the incredible creations that my fellow DT members have made!

This is such a fun challenge and I hope to see you all there!

Take Joy

A Day for Daisies is having a new Release of "The Tiny Ones" and a challenge called "Pastels, No pink". Pretty self explanitory I'd say. You must use a Day for Daisies image, but if you need an image, Tammy has very kindly offered an image for you to use. And it is just too cute! You can find the image and all the rules for the challenge here.
So for my card I decided to use Tammy's free image because it is just so blooming cute.

I found the idea for the fold on my wonderful friend Karen's blog...if you'd like to check it and her blog out, you can find them here. You'll have to scroll down to the heading "A new fold I tried".

The colors that I decided to go with were blue, lilac and lavender. I added blue stickles to my butterfly's and star dust stickles to my lavender roses. I also added little touches of rhinestones to my large lilac butterfly on the top left corner and the small lilac butterfly on the pearls coming up from my roses.

Here's a little closer look at that wonderful little image. Isn't it just adorable?

I added blue stickles to my small butterfly's by the sentiment. The sentiment is from Wink Wink Ink.

Supplies:
